Daniella Dalmasso CRITIQUE
For me, the vulnerability of the Polymita mirrors the long disruption of development in Cuba under decades of communist rule. The spiral -which should move outward- appears in these portraits interrupted and forced back onto itself. What in nature signals growth, becomes in the Cuban context, a condition of inactivity.

Entrare nell’installazione di Elmer Castillo somiglia meno all’ingresso in una mostra che all’avvicinarsi ai resti di un sistema sottoposto a pressione. Le opere riunite sotto il titolo The Spiral Cannot Expand non presentano la spirale come semplice ornamento o geometria simbolica, ma come struttura biologica e politica interrotta proprio nel momento della sua naturale espansione.

On April 30, Elmer Castillo presented "The Spiral Cannot Expand" in a private event at La Mansion Castillo in Havana with friends, artists, curators and art collectors.

The Spiral Cannot Expand Series includes 2 sculptures made of Murano Glass, elaborated in collaboration with Wave Fornace in Murano Island.
